Job Description

About the Role:

The Construction Safety Coordinator is responsible for supporting a safe and compliant work environment on active construction sites. This role is primarily field-based and focuses on observing work activities, identifying and addressing safety hazards, and reinforcing safe work practices among contractors and site personnel. The Safety Coordinator works as part of a safety team and partners closely with site leadership to promote a strong safety culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide active field oversight of construction activities to ensure compliance with safety regulations and company standards.
  • Conduct routine site safety inspections and audits; identify unsafe conditions or behaviors and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support the implementation of site-specific safety programs, procedures, and emergency response plans.
  • Participate in project meetings to address safety-related topics and coordinate safety expectations.
  • Serve as a visible safety resource for contractors and workers, responding to safety questions and concerns in the field.
  • Assist with incident and near-miss investigations, including identifying root causes and recommending preventative measures.
  • Coordinate compliance with key safety programs such as lockout/tagout, hot work, confined space entry, and other applicable policies.
  • Collaborate with other safety professionals to ensure safety documentation and practices remain current.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned and comply with all company policies and standards.

Qualifications:

  • OSHA 30 certification required; OSHA 500, CHST, or similar credentials preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in safety, occupational health, or a related field preferred, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 2–3 years of experience in construction safety; industrial or heavy construction experience preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety best practices.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively engage contractors and field personnel.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic construction environment.
  • Proficiency with standard computer software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with an emphasis on field-based safety oversight.
